There are always opportunities for people to volunteer at Lee County Conservation, even when it’s not in recognition of Earth Day (April 22).

On Saturday, volunteers dug in and helped with a variety of tasks at both Heron Bend Conservation Center and at Chatfield Park.

Lee County Conservation Director Heather Huebner said people were working on the center’s natural playground, people placed mulch around the trees that were planted a couple years ago. Volunteers were weedeating and working on landscaping. People picked up trash along the highway.

There were also high school volunteers working on painting the LCC logo on trash cans, and people were also painting picnic tables.

“We always have opportunities for volunteers,” Huebner said. “We actually have some pretty big projects here in the near future. We’re going to try to find a group to paint some of our shelter houses. So we thought that would be a really good opportunity.”

Huebner said for people and groups seeking volunteer hours, there can always be something found they can help with.

Pheasants Forever provided a free lunch in the Lee County Conservation Center for all the volunteers.
